I Felt My Heart Awaken
Dante
I felt a loving spirit suddenly,
past a long slumber, in my heart arise;
from far away then Love I seemed to see,
so glad, I could his face ill recognize.
He told me "Do your best to honor me",
and laughter in each word I did surmise.
With my lord there, I was still eagerly
watching his steps, when I, to my surprise,
saw lady Vanna and lady Beatrice
coming towards me, where I still was standing -
one bliss pursuing still another bliss.
And - here is what I am reminded of -
Love said "The first is Springtime, but the second
resembles me so much, her name is Love."

I may get in trouble for copying the above poem, but if Dante gets upset and e-mails me, I'll remove
it.  I thought it was beautiful and wanted to include it on site.

I have studied hell for quite a long time.  Growing up in the Bible Belt in a religious family, one is
threatened with the whole eternal damnation to the fiery torments of hell quite often.  So, being the
curious, studious type, I try to get as much information as I can on the subject.  The Catholics are
really into it, and have been using it as a way of obtaining obedience and funds from the poor for
centuries.  By breaking away from the Holy Roman Catholic Empire, one would think that the
Protestants would have abandoned the concept of enslaving the souls of the ignorant with the threat
of the inferno.  Not a chance.  Churches have always been money making machines, Jesus himself
despised them.  So, they nailed him to a cross and then made a number of religions based on him.
Go figure.

I myself believe that love cannot prohibit any soul from acquiring paradise.  I read that on a Robert
Fripp cd sleeve, but forgot where the quote originally comes from.  I consider hell to be complete
insanity, and  not some prison that those guilty of crimes against popular dogmatic beliefs.  It's a
silly notion worthy of a whimsical musical, like this one.
So, here we go.

The main character is myself:  narrator; composer; guitar slinging biker.

Entre-act
Entrance music to the play, or dare I say symphonic poem?  24 strikes on an entire orchestra of
sounds.

The Terraces of Purgatory
Not a bad place.  Not hell, but not heaven either.  Just hanging out, forever.  A comfortable place,
limbo.  But I must move on.

Zephaniah's Lucky Day
I hope I got the name right on this one.  The story is of a person destined for hell.  At the time of
judgement, two tablets are to be presented as evidence to send him to hell.  One of the tablets are
forgotten and he is allowed to go free.  Escaping eternal damnation via a clerical error.  Even here.

I Felt My Heart Awaken
See the above poem.  I must remember that love conquers all.

The Song of Cerberus
A monstrous dog which guards the entrance to Hades.  He lets them in, but won't let them out.
Scary pouch.

Pazuzu and Captain Howdy Meet Again
For those of you who haven't seen or read "The Exorcist", Pazuzu is the demon responsible for the
ordeal, and Captain Howdy is Reagan's imaginary friend.  The meeting is a happy occasion.

Status Meeting of the Second Hierarcy
Carreau, Prince of Powers. He tempts men with hardness of heart.
Carnivean is also a Prince of Powers. He tempts men to obscenity and shamelessness.
Oeillet is a Prince of Dominions. He tempts men to break the vow of poverty.
Rosier is the second in the order of Dominions. He tempts men against sexual purity.
Verrier is Prince of Principalities. He tempts men against the vow of obedience.
I couldn't leave these guys out.  I think they have plans for me.

Eternal Intermission
The midpoint of the programme.  Time to hit the head.

Malacoda Awaits
Malacoda is the leader of the Malabranche, the demons who guard Malebolge, the eighth circle of
Hell.  He with his fiends guard the grafters, caught in boiling pitch, torturing with grappling hooks
whoever they can reach.

Lunch on the Banks of Cocytus
The frozen lake at the deepest level of hell.  A great place for a picnic.

Satan's Calliope
Satan entertains his captives with a steam powered calliope.  Taken in, as most mortals are, I
almost forget that I am on a fact finding quest, not for the long haul.

The Conquering Love
I emerge from the trap, fighting my way out with my axe.

They Rock All Night at the Ballrooms of Mars
A humorous epilogue.  I have a drink while listening to an alien band.
